Stefan Wehmeier
Stefan Wehmeier was born 1955 in Cologne. Way before he would study fine arts at the Akademie in Munich, Wehmeier had earned a first degree in the art of goldsmithing followed by various scholarships and awards honoring his astonishing works.
Wehmeier’s work is notable for his abstract depictions of landscapes. At a first glance his paintings seem to be highly abstract - but gradually one should be able to see images of mountains, rivers and trees.
The act of painting is an important element of the artist. A characteristic element of Wehmeier’s works are preliminary marks deliberately left showing in the final picture as they are reworked layer upon layer.
